The Final was played on September 24th 2025 between Kiran Grewal of Beaconsfield GC and Gilly Brewer of Harewood Downs GC at Burnham Beeches in glorious sunshine with light winds.
Kiran was giving Gilly 4 shots and the players were advised that preferred lies on fairways were in place.
Both players got off to a nervous start on the first tee. Gilly found sand with her 2nd shot and Kiran was down in 4 to go 1 up. Two perfect drives were sent up the 2nd hole but again Gilly found sand with her 3rd shot and conceded the hole. By the 4th hole Kiran was 4 up but Gilly fought back and won the next two holes and Kiran was 2 up after 9 holes.
In the second half the wind was stronger, adding to the challenge. The 10th was halved and Gilly’s game steadied so that the match was all square after the 14th hole. Kiran won the 15th after a great approach shot but again the match was back to all square after the 16th. On the 17th both tee shots were right of the green & Kiran’s chip went very close to give her the advantage once again, 1 up and 1 hole to play. Kiran also won the 18th and won the match.
The match was refereed by Rosemary de Lacy and Lois Shoosmith, the County Captain, walked round with the match.
The match was played in a very friendly spirit and we want to extend our gratitude to Burnham Beeches for their generosity and excellent hospitality.
Winner - Shannon Holt (Gerrards Cross) & Runner-Up - Gilly Brewer (Harewood Downs GC) with County Captain Susanna Mitterer
The Challenge Cup Final took place on a slightly damp and gloomy autumn day at Hazlemere GC on 8 October 2024. The finalists were Shannon Holt from Gerrards Cross GC and Gilly Brewer from Harewood Downs GC. The match was refereed by Rosemary de Lacy and Shannon was giving Gilly 4 shots.
Both players got off to a slightly nervous start, with neither hitting the fairway on the first but they both soon settled down and there was never more than 1 hole between them, with Gilly going 1 up afrer the 2nd hole, and the score went back to All Square after the 4th hole. The match continued in that vein with a birdie on the 10th from Gilly matched by a Birdie from Shannon on the 11th. Although the forecast hadn't be great for the day - we were lucky to get to the 16th Tee before the heavens opened, umbrella's were put up and while the caddies and referee sheltered the 2 ladies stood up on the tee and played in the rain. Lucky by the time we got to the 16th green the rain had again stopped. The match was all square going up the 18th hole. With 2 great drives from the ladies and now the challange of the pond to go over, both were successful with their next shot but with Shannon's ball on the green and Gilly in the Bunker, where she came out nicely onto the green but had a very long putt from there. The match was won by Shannon with a score of 1up.
Susanna Mitterer BCLGA County Captain, walked with the match and was delighted to see some great golf.
Players, caddies and officials then sat down to a lovely afternoon tea of sandwiches, cakes and scones followed by the presentation of the prizes and the trophies by Susanna Mitterer.
Thanks go to Rosemary de Lacy for acting as referee and to the staff of Hazlemere for hosting the final and their generous hospitality.
