2025 Fixtures

The winter county training days are invites only, mostly 1st team/future 1st team players with a few 2nd team players to make up the numbers. The dates for 2025 are:

Sunday 2nd March at Denham Golf Club

Sunday 23rd March at Woburn - The adults v u-18s in the Tony Bowers trophy

Tuesday 15th April at Harewood Downs Golf Club - preparation for 1st team players for CMW

Combined 1st/2nd/junior friendlies 2025

Sunday 27th April v Middlesex (H) Highgate golf club, 18 holes

( Lunch, followed by afternoon 9 holes foursomes scratch matchplay then continue playing in the same groups of 4 into 9 holes singles scratch matchplay) (10 players needed)

2nd team league matches 2025

Sunday 6th April v Oxfordshire (A) Badgemore Park Golf Club, 36 holes

(Breakfast, 3 foursomes scratch matchplay singles, lunch, 6 scratch matchplay singles, tea and cake afterwards)

Saturday 13th April v Berkshire (H) Gerrards Cross golf club 36 holes

(Breakfast, 3 foursomes scratch matchplay singles, lunch, 6 scratch matchplay singles, tea and cake afterwards)

2025 2nd team Midlands South Regional Finals hosted by Berkshire

Thursday 21st August at Castle Royal golf club (all day might be 18 or 36 holes depending on what position we finish in the league)

About the county 2nd team

The 2nd team county matches are for low handicap players who enjoy competitive but sociable golf. Players ideally will have a single figure handicap index, as matches are played off scratch. 2nd team players are typically a mixture of new 1st team players, juniors aspiring for the 1st team and experienced ladies. There will be a couple of county training sessions, with Tony Bowers the ladies county coach, in the spring combined with the 1st team, juniors and 2nd team. Early in the season the 2nd team join the 1st team and juniors for two practice matches (friendlies) which are often a combination foursomes and singles scratch match play.

The county 2nd team plays in the Midlands South Region which is split into South - Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire, and North - Northamptonshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire & Herefordshire. Every year the South teams play each other and so do the North. Then at the Midlands South Second Team Finals in August the counties who finish top of each North/South area, play each other for the Trophy. The second placed teams in each North/South area and third placed teams also play each other at the Finals. Our two league matches against Berkshire and Oxfordshire will be one home and one away - these alternate each year. Each match has a team of between 6-8 players. The day starts early with coffee and bacon/egg roll with 3 foursomes scratch matchplay games in the morning. This is followed by a light lunch and 6 singles scratch matchplay games in the afternoon (strict handicap order even though the matches are scratch). The day finishes with a sociable afternoon tea. Most of the team will play morning and afternoon, but you can just play in one of these if you don’t fancy playing 36 holes. These matches are both competitive and sociable and extremely enjoyable. Buckinghamshire won the Midlands South Second Team trophy in 2018 and 2019 and we would like to get back to winning ways this year. Buckinghamshire hosted the Midlands South Regional finals in 2024 where we were runners-up to Worcestershire & Herefordshire.

Katie Reid, from Gerrards Cross Golf Club, is the 2nd team captain for 2025 and 2026. She is very keen to widen the pool of players and would like to hear from new players who have a single figure handicap and would like to be included in the 2nd team squad. There is no requisite to attend county training or commit to all games, if you can only play/train on one date you are very welcome.
