The Bucks Challenge Cup was introduced in 1927 following a suggestion from Ellesborough GC for a Challenge Cup to be held between all the Clubs in the County. It was decided that four players from each Club were to play 18 holes strokeplay with the aggregate of the two best nett scores to win the Trophy. The Competition was to be played on Courses within Buckinghamshire and to be taken in rotation. The Course for 1927 was decided by ballot, and Denham was selected. Handicaps were limited to 24.
In 1934, the format changed to an Inter Club Handicap Match Play Competition with teams of seven players. With the introduction of WHS in 2020, the maximum Handicap Index was set at 24.0 and, in 2022, lowered to 22.0. Until 2019, home and away for matches in the first three rounds was decided by ballot with the Semi-Finals and Final played on a single day in September, with the host Club rotated through the County. No Competition was held in 2020 due to Covid. In 2021, the format was changed so that matches up to and including the Semi-Final were to be played home and away, with the Final at a neutral Course in the September.
