N.B.  Results 2008:- N/A (new League):-

Bucks. v Berks. at Harleyford G.C. - Tuesday 7th. April
All members of the team played exceptionally well in a closely fought match against Berkshire. The result was an emphatic victory for Bucks. but each individual match could have gone either way, and all credit to our girls for maintaining the pace. The final singles match involving Kerry Sumner proved to be nailbiting as she was 3 down with 4 to play and fought strongly to end with a halved match.
The weather forecast of rain proved to be completely wrong and luckily the golf was played in the sunshine. Many thanks to the Lady Captain and ladies from Harleyford who turned out to ball spot and caddy for the team. The appreciative comments on the good golf played were very welcome.

Morning Foursomes:
Anne Bridges & Christine Sparks (both Mentmore)  - Halved
Kerry Sumner (Buckingham) & Zoe Fitz-Costa (Beaconsfield) - Won
Jess Burrows & Natalie Robinson (both Ellesborough) - Won
Afternoon Singles:
Anne Bridges - Won
Jess Burrows - Won
Christine Sparks - Won
Natalie Robinson - Lost
Zoe Fitz-Costa - Won
Kerry Sumner - Halved

Result:  WON (7 - 2)

Bucks. v Oxon. at Ellesborough G.C. - Wednesday 15th. April
We started the afternoon with a deficit and needed to win 4 out of the 6 matches - somewhat an uphill battle.  Jess, Holly and Natalie, all Ellesborough girls, played extremely well and managed 3 wins. It was nailbiting trying to find the 4th win and unfortunately those left with the task just lost the struggle. Once again Ellesborough greens were difficult to fathom.
Thanks must go to the Ellesborough ladies and a "gentleman" who caddied for the girls and to Sue Parker, Lady Captain of Ellesborough who rallied her members, many of them at the last moment.
Our next 2nd Team match will be away on the 24th July against Worcester/Herefordshire at Droitwich Golf Club.  If you are not able to support us in person then please do so with your thoughts!

(Second Team Captain)

Bucks. v Worcs/Heref. at Droitwich G.C. - Friday 24th. July
The first of our away matches in the new Midlands South Region took place at Droitwich G.C. against Worcs./Herefordshire.  Rumbles of thunder in the first few holes were ominous, but players continued as no klaxon was sounded.  The parkland course which was flat on the 1st, 17th and 18th holes, then headed upwards and was interesting with good views over the Malverns.
No Stroke Saver yardage charts and no Distance Measuring Devices allowed in the League gave the girls some difficulties as they worked out what club to hit to reach their previously unseen targets -  not an easy task for them as the majority of the opposition play the course fairly regularly, with one of them a member.
Twelve year old Annabel Dimmock from Beaconsfield made her debut into 2nd Team golf and performed with distinction playing with experienced Anne Bridges from Mentmore in the morning foursomes, halving their match, and just losing her singles on the 17th in the afternoon - this was her first 36 hole event.   Zoe Fitz-Costa, the Junior Captain from Beaconsfield, having played golf 6 days running, just lost her singles match on the 18th hole having had a tough match against a 1st team player. Susanna Mitterer from Woburn playing with Kerry Sumner from Buckingham won in the morning foursomes and had a battle in her singles match, being 2 up at the 13th and then her opponent drawing level at the 16th;  Susanna kept calm and went on to win by 2 holes.
Putting was crucial and there were many long and crucial putts holed by both sides.  Disappointingly the score didn't reflect the effort put into the matches, but someone has to win and unfortunately Bucks. just lost out. Very many thanks to Bernie Howe from Buckingham who was a travelling Reserve - (a long way to travel not to have a game).
The last League away match takes place at the end of August at Rugby in Warwickshire.  So far we have 1 win and 2 losses - another win is definitely needed if we are to have any chance for a League trophy.

Morning Foursomes:
Holly Small (Ellesborough) & Zoe Fitz-Costa (Beaconsfield) - Lost
Anne Bridges (Mentmore) & Annabel Dimmock (Beaconsfield) - Halved
Susanna Mitterer (Woburn) & Kerry Sumner (Buckingham) - Won
Afternoon Singles:

Zoe Fitz-Costa (Beaconsfield) - Lost
Susanna Mitterer (Woburn) - Won
Anne Bridges (Mentmore) - Won
Kerry Sumner (Buckingham) - Lost
Annabel Dimmock (Beaconsfield) - Lost

RESULT:  LOST (3½ - 5½)

Bucks. v Warwicks. at Whitefields G.C. - Thursday 27th. August

The last of our matches took place on the 27th August at Whitefields Hotel Golf & Country Club, near Rugby against Warwickshire.
Two new junior girls joined the team for their first venture into 2nd Team golf.  They both played well and partnered experienced players. Chelsea Kemp from Windmill Hill, 8 handicap, played with Kerry Sumner from Buckingham and Emily Marler from Hazlemere, handicap 9, joined forces with Bernie Howe, also from Buckingham. Holly Small and Natalie Robinson, both Ellesborough went out in second position. The morning foursomes was not successful with a 3 matches defeat over Bucks. by Warwickshire.
Lunchtime gave everyone some time to contemplate tactics for the afternoon's battle and, with a huge mountain to climb, the Bucks. girls did their utmost to narrow the gap. Holly came in first with a halved match, Bernie won her match 2 up, Natalie halved her match, Chelsea won her match convincingly 4/2 against Warwickshire's Captain, Kerry won 2/1 against her opponent who chipped in twice!  Emily, unfortunately, sadly lost by 2/1, but played some beautiful golf and, dare I say it, was a much better player than her opponent who miraculously managed to sink all her putts.
The outcome, therefore, was a 4/2 win by Bucks in the afternoon singles but sadly an overall loss of 4 matches for Bucks to 5 for Warwickshire.
With our close losses it would seem unlikely that Bucks will be holding the League trophy for 2009 but there are still matches to be played by Oxfordshire and the final results are not yet known.
I would like to thank everyone who has played for me in the 2nd Team during 2008 and 2009 and say how much I have enjoyed being their Captain.  Good luck to future 2nd team players.
