BUCKS WIN COUNTY WEEK AT TEMPLE GOLF CLUB, BERKSHIRE

Monday to Friday, 20th to 24th June

County Week Presentation

Well done to the Bucks team who had a fantastic win on Friday to win the Midlands South County Week for the third year in a row. Starting the day behind Berks by a single half point on count back, the two counties went head to head in a bid to take the title as winners of the Midlands South region.

Berkshire won two of the three morning foursomes matches meaning that Bucks had to win four of the six afternoon singles. After a nail biting finish the four matches were secured. The team now go to the County Finals at Waterlooville in Hampshire from 12th to 16th  September.

A summary of the week's matches:-

Monday v Northamptonshire:
Morning foursomes abandoned due to flooded greens. Afternoon singles took place in brilliant sunshine - a great start to the week with a 5 - 1 win.
Other first round matches:-
Berkshire beat Warwickshire 5 - 1  & Worcester/Hereford beat Oxfordshire 4½ - 1½

Tuesday v Warwickshire:
Bucks take a 2½ - ½ lead from the foursomes into the afternoon singles. Another good win for Bucks 5½ - 3½.
Other results:- Oxon beat Northants 5 - 4; Berks beat Worcs/Hereford 5 - 4

Wednesday matches:
Bucks beat Worcs/Hereford 5½ - 3½. This third win puts Bucks at the top of the table on equal points with Berks, just one game behind on countback.
Other results:-  Berks beat Oxon 7 - 2;  Warwicks beat Northants 5 - 4

Thursday matches:
Following a 2-1 lead in the foursomes the Bucks team had four big wins and a halved match in the rain delayed singles. Bucks took the match  6½ - 1½, to remain unbeaten for the week. Berks, also unbeaten, join them at the top of the table - on countback Berks lead Bucks by a single half point.
Other results:- Berks beat Northants 6 - 3;  Worcs/Hereford beat Warwicks 6 - 3

Friday's final round matches:-
Warwickshire beat Oxon (6 - 3)
Worcestershire & Herefordshire beat Northamptonshire (7 - 2)
Buckinghamshire beat Berkshire (5 - 4)

Dear Lady Members,                                                                                                               23rd May 2016

Firstly well done to our 2016 County Champion, Thalia Kirby from Stoke Park who retained the title, in a replay of last year’s final against Alice Kozlowski from Ellesborough. The Dukes course at Woburn played host to the County Championships from 6th to 8th May, the weekend when the fantastic weather was far better than in the Algarve! The course was in splendid condition and the golf in the match play was outstanding. There were birdies aplenty, holes halved in eagle and even an albatross!

The Taster Day for the “Girls Golf Rocks” campaign took place on 30th April at the 5 venues - Abbey Hill, Aylesbury Park, Gerrards Cross, The Buckinghamshire and Wexham Park. It was a great success with good numbers attending each venue, ranging from complete beginners to girls who had received some coaching previously. The girls are then able to continue with 4 or 5 sessions of follow-on coaching, culminating in a 9 hole competition.

Our next big event is the Summer Meeting, which is being held at The Lamborne Club on Thursday 9th June. It will be a three ball alliance competition, the same format as last year's sell-out event at Woburn. There are still places available and so the closing date has been extended to Thursday 26th May to give the opportunity for more teams to enter.

Preparations are now well under way for County Week, which for many of you will be very close, at Temple Golf Club in Berkshire. We have a very strong squad of players and we are hoping that we might qualify again for the County Finals in September. All the match details and times are on the website in the “County Week 2016” section. Do please try and come to support the team, or offer your services as a caddie. Just remember to wear something red.

With best wishes to you all for good golf in the summer months ahead,

Phillipa Cook
(County Captain)
