The annual Lady / Junior competition for the Karchargis trophies was played at Magnolia Park on Tuesday 1st September. The event takes the form of a Greensomes Stableford competition played over 18 holes with a lady and a junior in each pairing. Thirty pairs from 11 different clubs took part.
The weather was atrocious - the early starters set off in dry but very windy conditions. The rain showers soon came and it was a case of waterproofs on and then off again. The groups at the end of the field had by far the worst of the weather. A few of the groups came in before the end but full marks to the players who battled on to the 18th.
Despite the conditions there were some excellent scores. Making the most of the dry conditions at the start of their round, Phillipa Cook and Shamiso Hatchard (Woburn) scored 23 points on the front nine, finishing with a total of 41 points to take the Karchargis trophies. Carole Wright & Lydia Johnston (Harleyford) came second on contback from Alex Camp & Meghan Gargano (Ellesborough) with 38 points.
As ever the event was superbly run by members of the Junior Committee. Special thanks to Jane Etheridge and Debbie Fitz-Costa for their efforts in ensuring that the day ran smoothly.
