The BCLGA Junior Committee are pleased to announce that Zoe Fitz-Costa will be the Junior Captain for 2009 - she will take up the position from 1st January. Well done to Zoe and best wishes to her for the forthcoming year.

Zoe started playing golf at the age of 11 in 2003 at Wycombe Heights Golf Club. She joined her current club, Beaconsfield in 2004. In 2005 she won the Gill Batchelor Achievement Award and has played in Junior County Week since 2006.


Steph Gough has made a great start to her university golfing career, which has been acknowledged on the EWGA website. Below is a copy of the article posted on their website on 1st October:-

" Buckinghamshire girls’ champion Steph Gough (Ellesborough) has made a good start on the college circuit. The 18-year-old freshman at Middle Tennessee State University scored top-ten finishes in her first two outings of the season. Most recently she was joint 14th in a strong field of 90 players for the Johnie Imes Invitational tournament at The Club at Old Hawthorn, Columbia, Missouri.

One of Steph’s teammates is her club colleague Clara Leathers, a past Buckinghamshire champion, who is in her third year at university. "

Well done to Steph and best wishes to her and Clara for the rest of the year.

There have been a large number of Junior events and matches played throughout the summer and autumn. A report and the results of each event, often with photographs, can be found via the "Junior Fixtures" page - go to the relevant line and click on the link in the "Results" column.


The Lady/Junior competition was held on Thursday 28th August at The Lambourne Club. The winners of this year's 18 hole Greensomes competition for the Karchargis trophies, with an amazing score of 44 points, were the Ellesborough pair of Sue Clutterbuck and Louise Bowen.

The results were:
1st Sue Clutterbuck and Louise Bowen (Ellesborough) 44 points
2nd Lina Mckenna and Tanya Kumar (Harewood Downs) 42 points
3rd Penny Napier and Lydia Johnston (Harleyford) 41 points on c/b
4th Irene Gregory and Amy Staniford (Datchet) 41 points

Junior County Week was hosted by Herts. from Monday to Wednesday, 18th - 20th August, at Aldenham Golf Club, near Watford. The counties participating were the five counties from the old South East Division I area.

The Bucks girls got off to a great start in their defence of the South East Division I title. On Monday afterrnoon in their first match they defeated Berks 5½ - 1½. On Tuesday the Bucks Girls had a tough day in poor weather conditions, narrowly losing 4-3 to Hertfordshire in the morning matches and in the afternoon losing 6-1 to Hampshire.

The third and final day saw mixed results for the Bucks girls. They lost their morning match against Oxon by 5 - 2 but they bounced back in the afternoon to score a total of 105 points in the Stableford Foursomes competition, to take the trophy by 3 points from Berks.

Hants won all their matches to finish in first place with Oxon second. Bucks finished in fourth place but the girls played well and the young team gained valuable experience.

The Entry form and details for the Junior competition being held at Aylesbury Park on Sunday 13th. July can now be found in the "Junior Entry Forms 2008" section. There is a Medal competition (which is the county Daily Telegaraph qualifier) and a Stableford competition over 18 holes, plus a 9 hole competition.


During the May half-term break there were three events held for the Juniors:
- two matches were held, one against Berkshire on 27th. May and one against Oxfordshire on Sunday 1st. June
- the Tiddlers' Trophy at Aylesbury Park - well done to the winner, Charlotte West

Annabel Dimmock's name was put forward last November for the Society of London Lady Golf Captains' award as the junior who had reduced her handicap by the most - the award is given to the most improved golfer in Bucks. Annabel received the 2007 award certificate through the post and was given £150 in recognition of her achievement, which she has used for golf lessons. Well done to Annabel!


The Girls Inter-Schools Challenge Bowl was held on Saturday 26th. April at Sunningdale Ladies Golf Club. There were 11 schools taking part (Millfield had 3 teams entered). It was a beautiful day and the girls were made very welcome by the Sunningdale Ladies. Eleanor Dimmock and Victoria Collis represented Dr. Challoner’s High School and they came second in the team stableford with a joint score of 72 points. Victoria came runner-up in the Scratch competition on count back.

The BB&O Junior Girls' Championships were held at Tadmarton Heath on Thursday 17th. April. In the Scratch Competition Charlotte Nutt, Zoe Fitz-Costa & Rachel Drummond finished 2nd., 3rd. and 4th. respectively. Charlotte won the Handicap Cup with an excellent Nett 63 and Annabel Dimmock came third with a Nett 68. The Bucks. trio of Steph Gough, Charlotte Nutt & Alice Richards took the team prize. In the Stableford competition Rebecca Parmenta was runner-up, followed by Megan Lance in third place.
Well done to all the girls but particularly to Charlotte Nutt who achieved the double by winning the Handicap trophy at both the County and BB&O Championships.

The Junior Championships were held at Harleyford on Wednesday 9th. April. The sun shone and it was perfect spring conditions. Congratulations to Steph Gough (Ellesborough) who shot a gross 78 to become Junior Champion for 2008. Charlotte Nutt (Beaconsfield) won the Handicap Trophy and the Stableford competition was won by Daisy Lewis (Gerrards Cross). At the prize-giving other awards were presented. At the prize-giving of the Junior Championships the following awards were presented:
- County Captain Badges to the Joint Captains: Victoria Collis & Steph Gough
- County Keyrings (for service to the County): Emma Hargreaves & Rosie Bull
- Gill Batchelor Trophy: Lydia Johnston (go to "Junior Awards / Honours Board" page)
- Medals for Holes In One: Victoria Whittaker (achieved at the 2007 match v Berkshire at Flackwell Heath


Despite the wintry conditions there were some very good scores at the Junior Spring Meeting Stableford competition held at Oakland Park on Monday 7th. April. Well done to the winner, Claudia Beasley (Woburn) who scored a terrific 48 points! The full results with a report and photo, can be found on the "Junior Fixtures" page.


Becky Hammel has resigned from the position of County Junior Organiser. The BCLGA is delighted to hear the news that Becky is expecting her first child - she is quite happy to help out at any of the Junior events for as long as possible but feels unable to continue as CJO. There is therefore an urgent need to fill this vacancy. The Entry forms and details for the Junior competitions being held during the Easter holidays can now be found in the "Junior Entry Forms 2008" section:
- BB&O Junior Girls' Championships on Thursday 17th. April at Tadmarton Heath, Oxfordshire (closing date for entries: Thursday 3rd. April).
- Bucks. County Junior Championships on Wednesday 9th. April at Harleyford (closing date for entries: TBA).
- Intermediates' Trophy (for 18-25 year olds) at the above Junior County Champs.
- Spring Stableford on Monday 7th. April at Oakland Park (9 or 18 holes). Closing date for entries: TBA.


During February the girls had their first match of the year - against the boys' team from Woburn. The BB&O Stableford and the Par 3 Championships were also held.

This annual event was held at Sunningdale Ladies Golf Club on Saturday February 9th. Results not yet received.
