Handicap Report Delegates' Meeting
4th February 2009
On 27th January Lynda Hilton and I attended the Handicap Seminar at Edgbaston Golf Club. The main topic was regarding:
Competitors will have to hold an “Active” handicap to compete in EWGA medals from 1 January 2010. That’s the date when the new system of active and inactive handicapping will be launched by EWGA and the English Golf Union. All members with CONGU handicaps will have to return at least three qualifying scores each year to retain an active handicap. Supplementary scores and those from 9 hole qualifying competitions will be acceptable. EWGA are sending this advice now so that members will have ample opportunity to return 3 qualifying scores in 2009 and so have an active handicap at the start of 2010. An inactive handicap will have an “i”after it. Eg 12i
The Operational Board have reconsidered their decision and it has now been agreed that buggies may be used. The new wording of Condition 6.3 is as follows: BUGGIES may be used in EWGA Medals provided that the club permits their use.
DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES:
EWGA will NOT allow the use of them in any competitions run by EWGA, this includes EWGA medals. This is also the stance taken by the R&A and the other home countries, with exception of the English Golf Union. EWGA will review its position at the end of 2009 following feedback from EGU on their trial year. Lynda has photocopied the information and it is in your envelopes, but you can also download the EWGA medal information from the homepage (www.englishwomensgolf.org) under “hot topics".
