The cream of young English girl golfers, from all corners of the country, gathered at The Ramside Golf Club in Durham to compete in the English Girls’ U15s and U13s Championships. There were five girls who qualified and were competing from Buckinghamshire.

Lydia Johnston (Harleyford GC) qualified for the Abraham Trophy which is a competition to find the most improved girl golfer of the year. Eight area winners and the next 12 players with the best average nett scores and those who tie, qualify for the final which is played on the morning of the Championship practice round.  The competition consists of one round of stroke play.

The Championship consists of two 18 hole stroke play qualifying rounds with the leading half playing an 18 hole final for U13s and 36 hole final for the U15s. The course tested the girls' course management and golf ability with many dog legs, narrow contoured fairways, water to carry, fast undulating greens and very difficult pin positions. These conditions combined with high winds raised the course standard scratch to 75.

U13s Annabel Dimmock narrowly missed the cut scoring 183. U15s Alice Richards scored 184, Eleanor Dimmock scored 184, Lydia Johnston scored 187 and Charlotte Nutt scored 188.  All girls thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, especially mixing with girls from different parts of the country and watching some truly spectacular golf. The course was marshalled by EWGA ladies and local club members who were particularly friendly and welcoming.

The Head Pro, Kevin Jackson, was amazed at the standard of golf played and was very impressed by the talent of young girl golfers in England - he said he was honoured to have stars of the future play his course.
