The Finalists:- Georgie Cairns (left) with club mate Shirley Green
The final of the Challenge Cup was played on a dull autumnal moring on Wednesday 24th September. Two ladies from Gerrards Cross had qualified and so the match was played on their home course. Playing off a handicap of 8 the BCLGA Treasurer, Georgie Cairns, was giving six shots to club colleague Shirley Green.
Shirley won the 1st hole and was soon 2 up, only to chip in at the Par 3 8th hole to go to 3 up. Georgie took the ninth hole and so it was 2 up at the turn to Shirley. Despite losing the 10th hole Georgie brought the match to All Square by the 13th. Although both players won a hole on the closing stretch there was nothing between them by the end of regulation play.
The 19th hole - Shirley (left) on her way to victory
Going up the 19th Georgie found herself out of position, shut out by the trees on the right. Shirley capitalised on the situation and won the hole to take the title.
