EWGA EGM IN OCTOBER 24th August

EWGA have called an Extraordinary General Meeting to be held on 8th October at 2.00pm at The Plough and Harrow Hotel, Hagley Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham. The business of the meeting will be to consider, and if thought fit, to pass the following resolution:-

"To remove the non-executive Directors of the Company, namely Carola Babcock, Carolyn Ann Baker, Jane Longhorn and Ada Mary Millar, with immediate effect as directors of the Company.”

Following the re-organisation of EWGA that came into effect in January, there is one vote per county which is decided by the clubs within that county. Each club is required to arrange a vote of their members to determine the vote to be taken to a County Meeting. The county then takes the county Yes or No vote for each resolution to the EWGA General Meeting.

County Delegates are responsible for ensuring that their club members vote on all EWGA resolutions, and then take their club’s vote to the county meeting. A special Delegates’ Meeting has been arranged for the vote to be taken – it is being held on Wednesday, 3rd September at Gerrards Cross G.C. at 2.00pm. It is a requirement that one third of all Delegates attend the Delegates’ meeting for the vote to be taken.

The following details of the EGM can be found on the EWGA website:-
- Notice of the Meeting
- Letter to Clubs
- Written representations from the EWGA President
- Written representations from the 4 EWGA non-executive Directors
- Written representations from EWGA staff
- Minutes of various EWGA Meetings
To view the above click on the following link: www.englishladiesgolf.org and then on the “Home” page, click on “Notice of 2008 Extraordinary General Meeting of EWGA”.

All Delegates are asked to make sure that they are pro-active in gaining the views of their members on this important matter so that they can convey the vote of their members at the Delegates Meeting in accordance with their wishes.

All members are asked that they give due consideration to the matter before casting their vote at club level.

BUCKS FINISH CLOSE THIRD AT COUNTY WEEK 30th June

The Bucks Team played extremely well in County Week played at Wellingborough Golf Club from 22nd to 27th June. They finished in third position on countback from Northants who beat them into the runner-up spot by just half a point in the individual matches played. Bucks were the only team to deny the winners Warwicks a clean sweep of victories.

Final positions were:-
1st Warwickshire
2nd Northamptonshire on c/b 24½ wins
3rd Buckinghamshire on c/b 24 wins
4th Worcester & Herefordshire
5th Oxfordshire
6th Berkshire

Well done to all ten members of the County Squad who gelled well as a team. The Foursomes matches were particularly successful with some ver successful partnerships:- Nicole & Harriet won all 4 of their matches, Carole & Tash won their 3 matches ad Holly & Jess dropped only ½ point in their 3 matches. In the Singles Kelly was outstanding winning all 4 of her matches. Although slightly disappointed with the overall result, the week was a good experience for the young team who are surely destined to win the event in the not too distant future.

NOTES ON THE NEW WEBSITE 18th June

Welcome to the new County website, which we hope you will find easy to use and be able to find the information you require without any difficulty. We are most grateful to Holly Small and her colleague for all their assistance in getting this new site designed and up and running. It was important to get the site ready for County Week but it has meant that not all the pages have yet been added; new pages will come on stream on a daily basis.

One of the most important features of the new site is that unlike the old website, it is very user friendly for us to work with. Also not only are two of us now able to update all the pages but in addition the two Competitions Secretaries will be able to put the results directly onto the site.

Most of the information from the old site has been transferred including all the old News items. Previous years' details of competition results have not been uploaded but there is instead a new feature will be of interest to those who like to keep an eye on past events - an "Honours Boards" which can be found in the "Archive Articles" section.

Another feature that will be available soon is the facility for players in the county teams (ladies and juniors) to log in to update their player profile to keep the committee up to date with their contact details and playing record. This is the "Players Login" box that appears on the right of the Home Page under the "Latest News".

Below are a few notes about how the website works. There are icons along the top and down the left hand side - the majority of those on the left have drop-down sub menus.

(a). Icons along the top:"
The "Fixtures" and "Junior Fixtures" pages give the list of all events and where applicable a "Click Here" button to go straight to the relevant Results page, or to download an Entry Form / Minutes (reading/downloading will be in the form of a Word File). The "Contact Us" and "Junior Contacts" pages give a list of all contact details so that any queries can be directed straight to the relevant person (an e-mail can be sent by clicking on the relevant e-mail address).

(b). The News items now appear on the right of the "Home" page in "Latest News" - just click on the headline for the full article. After a while these articles will be transferred to "News Articles 2008" in the "Archive Articles" Section which includes previous years' News items.

(c). Icons on the left hand side:

  • The "Clubs" Section will give details of clubs in the county for members' information.
  • The Competitions are now split between the Knock-outs and the Leagues (the Interclub Fousomes are included with the Knock-outs). The results and Rules appear in these sections. Entry forms for the competitions can be downloaded from the Fixtures lists. (Rules and Entry Forms are in Word format).
  • The "County Teams" Section contains all the fixtures/match results for the First Team (other than County Week), the Second Team and the Seniors.
  • the "Links" Section gives direct links to various websites that may be of interest to members.

We would welcome comments from members on this new website but please bear in mind that the site is still being built and so it may be that what you would like to see on the website is still being processed! Our contact details can be found on the "Contact Us" page.

A REMINDER RE GPS MEASURING DEVICES

At the B.C.L.G.A. Executive Meeting on 12th March the use of GPS measuring devices was discussed. Rule 14-3b. states that a player must not use any device for the purpose of gauging or measuring distance or conditions that might affect his play. (Penalty for breach of Rule 14-3: disqualification). The Committee may make a Local Rule allowing players to use devices that measure or gauge distances only.

The Executive decided that they will not make a Local Rule for the 2008 competitions or meetings, and therefore the use of measuring devices is not permitted. The situation will be reviewed for competitions in 2009.

Many Clubs have made a Local Rule allowing use of such devices in their competitions. However the "Committee" as referred to in Rule 14-3, is the committee in charge of the competition. Therefore at Clubs where players are allowed to use devices in Club competitions, they will not be permitted to use them in any county match/competition.

TEAM MATCH RESULTS

The First Team over the last two weekends have played their warm-up matches. The Seniors and the Juniors have also played matches. To see how the teams fared go to the "Match Results" and the "Junior Fixtures" pages.

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS - 9th to 11th MAY

The matchplay took place on Saturday and Sunday 10th/11th May - well done to Ellesborough for having 6 of the 16 qualifiers. The standard of play in all the matches was superb. The semi-finals saw an all Ellesborough match (Jess Burrows against Steph Gough) and a repeat of the exciting 2006 final (Rachel Drummond against Clara Leathers). The crowd who turned out on the Sunday afternoon in the warm, sunny weather, was treated to a close match in what is believed to be the first ever all-junior final. Congratulations to Rachel Drummond (Beaconsfield) who beat Steph Gough on the 18th. hole to become the 2008 Champion.

NICOLE WHITMORE IN NATIONAL FINALS

Nicole Whitmore (Woburn) was unable to defend her Championship title - for the best of possible reasons. As a fresher Nicole has done extremely well this year to be consistently selected to play for her university. The Nova Southeastern University team won the South Regional competition and so went on to the American University National Finals from 13th to 16th May in Houston, Texas. There they finished a close second to their local rivals Rollins College whom they had beaten the week before in the area qualifiers.

USE OF GPS MEASURING DEVICES
