Dear Lady Members,                                                                                                       29th September 2017

We had a gruelling but exciting week at National County Finals which was hosted in Suffolk at Felixstowe Ferry GC and our final placing did not reflect how well the squad performed against Nottinghamshire, Suffolk, Gloucestershire, Yorkshire & Hampshire.

Monday & Tuesday’s results only just went against us (4-5) and with a halved match (4½-4½) against Yorkshire on Thursday, it could have been a very different story but for a couple of match results.

We were thrilled that Bucks were the only county to take so many points from Yorkshire during the week and I received several compliments from both the opposition and England Golf officials praising the standard of play and the conduct of our girls 'on-course'.  The whole week (although exhausting and tense) was played in very good spirit and Yorkshire were ultimately victorious, beating last year’s winners Gloucestershire on the final day in a nail-biting finish, with the final putt on the 18th green clinching it.

This is the 5th time in 6 years that Bucks have qualified for National Finals Week and much credit must be given to our clear talent pathway, which is producing such high calibre players.  My thanks to the team who did all the hard work and to the faithful supporters who came all the way to Suffolk to cheer us on.

Congratulations to Daisy Kennedy (15yrs) & Thalia Kirby (16yrs) who have been selected twice this year to play for England - it’s an honour and a huge achievement with both girls reducing their handicap to scratch this year.

The BCLGA AGM is fast approaching and I’m pleased to announce that Gail Sharp (Gerrards Cross GC) has accepted my invitation to become the County Vice Captain.  She will take up post officially following the AGM at Harleyford GC on 25th October and I hope to see many of you there for a 2pm start.

Best wishes,

Sue Ashworth
(County Captain)
