Summer Knockout Finals 2012

Champion of Champions

This competition has been won by Gillian Kinnear (Gerrards Cross) without having to play a final. In the top half of the Draw, Evie Ing (Ellesborough) was given a walk-over by Rachel Drummond (Beaconsfield) in the sem-finals as Rachel turned professional in August. Before the final against Gillian could be played Evie also turned professional, and so had to withdraw from the competition.

The Challenge Cup: the final between Carolyn Howell (Woburn) and Jo Harrison (Three Locks) was played on Saturday, 29th September on the Rothschild Course at Mentmore.  Both players had previous experience of playing in this final.  Jo won the title in 2010 and Carolyn had played in no less than 4 previous finals, winning the event in successive years, 2005 and 2006, and finishing as runner-up in 1990 and 2011.

Jo won the first hole and went further ahead until Carolyn won the nineth hole with a par to get back to within one hole at the turn. Jo won the 11th hole and then, with the use of the second of her two shots, the 13th to go 3 up. The 16th was won by Jo with a par to take the match 4 & 2.

Summer Greensomes Final

The winners of the Summer Greensomes:- Mary Taylor and (right) Pam Willis

The final of the Summer Greensomes was held at Beaconsfield Golf Club on Sunday 14th October, between Pam Willis & Mary Taylor from Gerrards Cross and Lina McKenna & Karen Burrows from Harewood Downs and Ellesborough.  Pam and Mary were receiving four shots from Lina and Karen.

It was a beautiful sunny day, and we had a good turnout for the match.  Pam, Mary and Lina brought caddies, and Glenise Marfell, Lady Captain at Gerrards Cross also came along to support.  Janet Beal was the match referee, and Sally Harborne also came along to watch.

The first two holes were exchanged, and Pam and Mary won the 3rd hole using their shot.  On the fourth hole, Pam played a great chip and Mary holed the putt for a win.  The fifth was halved, and on the sixth Pam again played a great shot in from about 60 yards to about six feet from the pin, and Pam and Mary went 3 up.  Lina and Karen won the short 7th with a par, but Pam and Mary immediately got back to 3 up winning the 8th hole.  The nineth hole was halved, so it was 3 up to Pam and Mary at the turn.

On the 10th Karen holed a 12 foot putt for a win, and then on the 11th Karen holed an 8 foot putt, but Mary kept her nerve and holed a 5 foot putt for a half.  On the 12th Pam and Mary had a shot, but Lina played a good chip and Karen holed another 8 foot putt for a par to halve the hole.

On the next hole Pam played another exquisite short iron from about 60 yards to no more than 2 feet from the pin for a tap in par.  Lina and Karen were unable to get up and down from the greenside bunker, so lost the hole.  The 14th was the final shot hole, and was won by Pam and Mary to go dormie four up.  On the 15th both pairs had good drives.  Pam played first and hit a great shot to about 15 feet from the pin and Lina just went off the back of the green.  Karen tried valiantly to hole her chip but failed, so the match was won by Pam and Mary 5 and 3.

On behalf of the County I would like to thank Beaconsfield Golf Club for allowing us courtesy of their course for this final.
