B.C.L.G.A. ANNUAL COUNTY LUNCH

The Annual County Lunch for 2007 returns to Wobun Golf Club on Wednesday 17th. January. The Lunch will be followed by a Musical Interlude and there will be a chance to learn about the County Captain's Charity, "Hearing Dogs For The Deaf". A poster and Entry Form for the Lunch has been sent to all Club Delegates. Alternatively an Entry Form can be printed directly
from the website.
N.B. Entries will be accepted on a first come first served basis.


BUCKS. SHIELD DRAW

The Draw for the 2007 Bucks. Shield was made at the Delegates' Meeting on 29th. November. The full Draw can be found in the "Competitions" Section.


NEWS FROM B.C.L.G.A. ANNUAL MEETING

At the Annual Meeting held at Harleyford on Wednesday 25th. October six members of the Executive retired including the County Captain, Anne Coney. Carolyn Howell has taken on the role as County Captain - a full list of the Executive members with their contact details can be found within the "News" Section. The presentation of the trophies took place and a full list of
the winners can also be found in the "News" Section.

BERNIE HOWE WINS CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS

Bernie Howe (Buckingham) won the final of the Champion of Champions' trophy on Sunday 22nd. October. Played on the Duke's Course at Woburn in very wet conditions Bernie defeated Christine Watson (Beaconsfield) on the 18th. hole.


BUCKINGHAM WIN INTERCLUB FOURSOMES

The Interclub Foursomes were held at Denham on Thursday 19th. October. There were some very good scores despite the fact that the recent heavy rainfall meant that the course was playing very long and the greens were slow. The Buckingham team of Bernie Howe & Jeanette Richardson and Kerry Sumner & Elaine Harrison had an aggregate nett score of 146 to take the title from last year's winners Lambourne who had a total of 146½. Third were the team from Woburn with 147. Lorraine Matthews & Lesley Cory (Lambourne) were the best pair with a score of 71½.

CAROLYN HOWELL RETAINS CHALLENGE CUP

Congratulations to Carolyn Howell (Woburn) on retaining the Challenge Cup. The final was played on The Rothschild Course at Mentmore on Sunday 8th. October. In a very close match Carolyn beat Sue McEntee (Burnham Beeches) on the 18th. to take the title for the second year running.


NEWS OF SUMMER LEAGUES

The Summer League matches have been completed. Congratulations to the League Champions, Beaconsfield who won the Scratch Premier Division with 26 points from Burnham Beecheswith 23 points. Lambourne topped Division 2 with Magnolia Park and Stoke Park winning Divisions 3 and 4.
In the Bronze League Harewood Downs scored 21 points to win Division 1 with Lambourne in second place with 19 points. The winners of the other Divisions were:- Division 2 - Chartridge Park; Division 3 - Buckingham; Division 4 - Gerrards Cross and Division 5 - Wavendon.

LADY AND JUNIOR TROPHY

The Lady and Junior Trophy was won by mother and daughter team of Jane and Lucy Etheridge from Denham with 42 points. A record entry of 30 pairs played in the annual event for The Karchargis Trophies, which was played at Harleyford Golf Club on Friday 1st. September. Runners-up were Nicola and Hannah Marshall with 41 points and third were last year's winners Angela French and Helen Mackreath.

JANICE TAGUE WINS L.G.U. GOLD MEDAL

The L.G.U. Finals' Day to determine the winner of the Gold Medal was held at The Buckinghamshire Golf Club on Monday, 31st. August. Janice Tague from Lambourne was the winner with a score of Nett 70 (CSS = 73). The runner-up was Lindsay Arnell from Woburn with a Nett 72. The L.G.U. Finals' Day for the Silver Medal (for Bronze Division players) was held on the same day at Oakland Park.


SENIORS WIN AGAIN

The Seniors won their match on Thursday 31st. August against Berkshire at Burnham Beeches. They have now notched up two wins and one halved match in this year's ELGA South East Division Scratch Singles League. They currently lie at the top of the League - their remaining match is on 14th. September at Liphook against Hampshire.

HAREWOOD DOWNS WIN BUCKS. SHIELD

The Finals' Day of the Bucks. Shield took place on Thursday, 10th. August, at Harewood Downs Golf Club. In a closely fought final Harewood Downs defeated Ellesborough, some six years after they last took the title. For full results go to the "Results" Page in the "Competition" Section.


CHRISTINE WATSON SELECTED BY ENGLAND

Congratulations to Christine Watson (Beaconsfield) who has been selected by England for:
- the European Lady Seniors' Team Championships being played from 5th. to 8th. September at Royal Waterloo Golf Club, Belgium.
N.B. Christine helped to steer the team to take the Silver Medal, losing to France in the Final.
- the Senior Home International Matches at Hamilton Golf Club from 3rd. to 5th. October.


S. E. CHAMPIONSHIPS

The S. E. Championships were held at Hadley Wood Golf Club on 18th. to 20th. July. The scores of the three from Bucks. who entered the 36 hole qualifying strokeplay competition were:- Nicole Whitmore (Woburn) 154, Vicki Harris (Beaconsfield) 157, Clara Leathers (Ellesborough) 159. The top 16 qualified for the matchplay - the leading score was 142. Nicole qualified in 12th. place and was beaten in the first round by Rozalyn Adams (Addington Court, Surrey). The final was contested by a pair from Kent, Sarah Tyson (Redlibbets) against Claire Aitken (The London Club). Sarah won on the 19th. to become the South East Champion at the tender age of 15.

Oxfordshire hosted County Week at Frilford Heath Golf Club. The overall results for the week were:-

SENIORS WIN LEAGUE MATCH

The Bucks. Seniors played their first League Match on Thursday 1st. June at Buckingham Golf Club. They won the match against Oxfordshire by 4½ to 2½. Full details of the match can be found in the "Match Results" Section.


HALVED MATCH FOR THE FIRST TEAM

The First Team halved their match against Bedfordshire at Magnolia Park on Sunday 28th. May. This was the last of their
warm-up matches before County Week at Frilford Heath (12th. to 16th. June). Full details of the match can be found in the

CLARA LEATHERS IN ENGLISH QUARTER-FINALS

Clara Leathers qualified for the matchplay of the English Ladies Close Amateur Championships, which were held at West Lancashire Golf Club from 23rd. to 27th. May - with a gross 82 and 80 in the qualifying round she finished in 12th. position. After two good wins Clara was beaten 3 & 1 in the quarter-finals by Kiran Matharu (aged 17) who went on to take the title after defeating Naomi Edwards 5 & 4 in an all Yorkshire final. TWO WINS FOR THE FIRST TEAM

The First Team continued their preparation for County Week with two matches over the weekend of 20th./21st. May. They won their match against the Ellesborough Mens "A" team and the following day aginst the Denham Men. They have one more friendly match to play before County Week at Frilford Heath (12th. to 16th. SQUAD ANNOUNCED FOR COUNTY WEEK

At the prize presentation of the County Championships a squad of ten players was announced for County Week, which this year is being held at Frilford Heath from 12th. to 16th. June:-
Rachel Drummond (Beaconsfield); Tasha Gough (Ellesborough); Vicki Harris (Beaconsfield); Lynda King (Rye Hill); Kelly Knight (Magnolia Park); Clara Leathers (Ellesborough); Sarah Mace (Woburn); Nicola Marshall (Denham); Carole Weir (Beaconsfield); Nicole Whitmore (Woburn).


* * CLARA LEATHERS - COUNTY CHAMPION 2006 * *
Clara Leathers from Ellesborough beat Rachel Drummond from Beaconsfield to become this year's County Champion - in a fantastic final at Ellesborough on Sunday 7th. May Clara came from behind to level the match at the 14th. hole. With one hole of regulation play remaining Clara was 1 up - Rachel then proceeded to eagle the last to take the match into extra time. Clara went on to take the title at the 21st. hole.
The semi-finals on the Sunday morning included three Intermediates and one Junior:-
Rachel Drummond beat Vicki Harris (both Beaconsfield) 4 & 3
Clara Leathers (Ellesborough) beat Kelly Knight (Magnolia Park) 6 &5

The 36-hole Spring Meeting and Championship Qualifying event was held on Friday 5th. May at Ellesborough G.C. with the knock-out stage of the Championships taking place on 6th. & 7th. May. On a warm, sunny day there were some exceptionally good scores in the Qualifying Rounds. In the morning two of our younger players (Rachel Drummond & Vicki Harris, both
from Beaconsfield) headed the field with gross scores of one over par 72. In the second round Lynda King (Rye Hill) led the way with a 72 - an afternoon 73 gave Rachel the best qualifying score.

CONGRATULATIONS TO:-
Christine Watson (Beaconsfield) who became the English Seniors' Champion on Friday 28th. April when she beat the title holder Chris Quinn (Hockley) in the final at the 20th. hole. The event was played over the New Course at Sunningdale - with scores of 78 and 80 Christine qualified in 5th. place for the matchplay. She was joined in Division 1 of the 36 hole qualifying rounds by three other Bucks. ladies, Cathy Armstrong, Carole Weir and Margaret Maisey. Division 2 also had three Bucks. ladies, Carolyn Howell, Anne Granville and Pauline Olliver. ENTRIES FOR S.E. ELGA LADIES FOURSOMES

The South East ELGA Ladies Foursomes is this year being held at Blackmoor Golf Club, Hampshire, on Wednesday 27th. September. The 36-hole stroke play foursomes competition is open to ladies with a handicap of 14 or less (combined limit 28). There is a trophy for the best 36-hole Scratch score and there are Scratch and Handicap prizes. The closing date for entries is 18th. August.


ENTRIES FOR ELGA SOUTH EASTERN CHAMPS.

The ELGA South Eastern Championships are this year being held at Hadley Wood Golf Club, Hertfordshire, on 18th. - 20th. July. The 36-hole stroke play qualifying round is followed by matchplay for those with the leading 16 scratch scores. The County Shield goes to the county with the lowest three, out of a nominated 4, aggregate scratch scores over the 36 holes medal round. There is also an Intermediate Trophy for those between 18 and 23 on 1st. January 2006. The Championship is open to ladies with a handicap of 9 or better.

WIN FOR FIRST TEAM v MIDDLESEX

The County First Team played Middlesex at Burnham Beeches on Sunday 30th. April in the first of their warm up matches for County Week. They won the match by a convincing margin of 4½ to 2½, a complete reversal of last year loss of 1½ to 6½. The full results can be found in the "Match Results" section.


SPRING MEETING AT WESTON TURVILLE

The Spring Meeting for handicaps 15 and above was held at Weston Turville on Friday 28th. April. It was a fairly chilly but dry day and the course was in very good condition. An excellent buffet was enjoyed by all. The CSS went up by 3 and so the competition was Reduction Only. Well done to the prize-winners:-

SECOND TEAM MATCHES

All the Second Team matches have now been played. Diane Wilson, the Second Team Captain, reports that with only one win out of the five matches played, the results are disappointing as they do not reflect the high standard of play, effort and commitment shown by the team. Up against strong teams on good form one or two putts could have made all the difference. A
total of fifteen people played in the teams - well done to Vicki Harris for winning five of her six matches. There was good team spirit in every match and the second team has become a strong unit. THE BEACONSFIELD SALVERS

"The Beaconsfield Salvers" takes place this year on Thursday 6th. July. There are Scratch and Handicap prizes - please note that there is a combined Handicap limit of 34. The closing date for entries is 7th. June. Entry Forms for this prestigious 36 Hole Medal Foursomes competition are available from Wendy Gardiner (Tel: 01494, 672406).


BB&O PARTNERSHIP

In 2004 Sport England (who distribute Lottery money to English Sport) designated golf as one of the top 10 sports in the country. Sport England have awarded golf £9million for the period 2005 - 2009. This is administered by The England Golf Partnership whose members are EGU, ELGA, and PGA with support of the Golf Foundation and Sport England. In order to
implement the "Whole Sport Plan" at county level a number of pilots were initiated. As part of these the BB&O Partnership was formed in July 2005.

The Berks., Bucks. & Oxon. Partnership is an alliance between the BB&O Union of Golf Clubs, the BB&O PGA, the Berkshire Ladies County Union, The Bucks. Ladies County Union and the Oxon. County Ladies Union. Sue Lee represents the BCLGA

WINTER COMPETITION RESULTS

Congratulations to the winners of the Winter League Ellesborough with 24 points, closely followed by Denham with 22 points and Woburn with 20 points. Division 1 winners are Lambourne with a total of 26 points with Hazlemere the runners-up with 22 points. Division 2 was won by the Composite team who dropped only three points in all their matches, with Flackwell Heath the runners-up.

The final of the Winter Foursomes between Olive Marchant & Yvonne Goodson from Woburn and Carol Ritchie & Amanda McCallum from Denham was played on Wednesday 12th. April at Buckingham Golf Club. Congratulations to Olive and Yvonne for their victory on the 18th. hole.

SENIORS' COUNTY MATCHES

Any lady would like to play in the Seniors' Matches should send off the form to the Seniors' Captain, Liz Weaver - to qualify you generally need a handicap of under 14 and be over 50 years of age on 1st. January. For the friendly matches players with a handicap up to 18 may be selected. The Form with all the details and dates, which is in the Yearbook Folder, may also be printed from the website.


B.C.L.G.A. YEAR BOOK FOLDERS

This year each Club is being given an A4 size Year Book Folder which replaces the small individual Year Books of previous years. The Folders were distributed at the County Lunch and should be available in all the Locker Rooms. The Folders contain much more information than the old style books - much of the information can now be found throughout this website.
An Entry Form for each of the B.C.L.G.A. Competitions and Meetings is included in the Folder. This is to be photocopied for any member who would like to enter. Alternatively Entry Forms can be printed from this website - go to the "Entry Forms" Page in the "Competitions" section.
N.B. The deadline for receipt of entries for the Challenge Cup is:- 26th. February. To print off an Entry Form.


THE B.C.L.G.A. 30th. ANNUAL COUNTY LUNCH

On a dull, damp day over 200 members of the County, made the trip to The Sculpture Gallery, Woburn Abbey, on Wednesday 18th. January. In an idyllic setting a wonderful lunch was enjoyed by all. The speaker Suzanne C. Morgan, an accomplished after dinner speaker, gave an amusing account of some of her life's experiences, ranging from her time spent on the QE2, to her role as a lady pawn broker.
A raffle was held in aid of the Captain's charity PACE, which raised an amazing total of £1075. On behalf of the Bucks. Lady Captain's Golfing Society Charmian Hawksworth presented a cheque for £200 to Anne Coney for the B.C.L.G.A. Juniors section.
