Midland South Handicap Stableford
Oakland Park - 26 August 2010
Oakland Park Golf Club were the Bucks hosts to the annual Midlands South Handicap Stableford held on Thursday 26th August. Luckily the rain eased from torrential to a light drizzle so that the greenkeepers at Oakland could enable the event to go ahead. The event is especially for up and coming girls who have handicaps in the range of 16 to 36 from the six counties of the Midlands South region. With over half of the entrants from Bucks county this emphasised the strength of girl’s golf in Bucks at present. Each county nominates a team of 4 girls and the winners were Worcestershire and Herefordshire, just beating the team Bucks 2. However the Bucks girls took 3 of the 4 individual prizes. Emma Norris from Denham Golf Club, playing off a handicap of 29, was the overall winner with an amazing 47 points. Twelve year old Emma has only obtained her handicap and made her first appearance as a Bucks team member this spring and she has been training at the BB&O Partnership academy this year. The next three places were decided on count back as each girl scored 46 points .Second place went to twelve year Rachel Goodwin of Harleyford Golf Club, also a member of the BB&O academy. Third place was Victoria Rogers from Wharton Park, Worcestershire and fourth, Joanna Smith of Burnham Beeches. Eleven girls scored more than 40 points in this event in spite of the wet weather which bodes well for handicap reductions before the season ends! The junior committee of the Bucks County Ladies Golf Association would like to thank Oakland Park for making such a great job of hosting the event.
