A team of girls who are members at a club whose junior sections play matches against each other in the Chiltern League were lucky enough to be invited to play at the leagues regional final. Barbara Pratt, (Ex CJO) junior organiser at Beaconsfield organised the team and they won beating all the boys and mixed teams! They now go on to represent the region and play at the national finals in Cheshire on 25th October.

The team who played at Studley Wood GC were Evie Ing (Ellesborough) (Capt) Charlotte Nutt, (Beaconsfield) Charlotte West, (Ellesborough) Victoria Bryan, (Chartridge Park) Katie Porat, (Harleyford) Alice Kozlowski. (Ellesborough)

Well done girls and good luck at the final.

JUNIOR COUNTY WEEK  -  11 August 2010

Berkshire hosted this years Junior County Match Days at Temple Golf Club. The competition started with the team stableford on a glorious sunny day.  Bucks won this foursomes event last year and only narrowly missed winning this again by one point.  Team spirits were on a high for their afternoon match against the hosts and Emily's inspiring team talk of 'play well guys' certainly worked as all seven matches were won.  Tuesday's first match was against Oxfordshire (last years BB&O) winners.  The Bucks girls again produced some great golf with a 6-1 victory and Charlotte West winning her match on her first County Week.  Bucks played their final match in heavy rain in the afternoon against last years winners Herts.  Both counties unbeaten Bucks needed to only halve the match to win overall but unfortunately this was not to be as Herts won 4½ - 2½.  The Bucks team will go forward to represent the BB&O region at the Midland South Team finals at Gaudet Luc GC, Worcestershire on Sunday 3 October.

A combination of factors contributed to the success of the team this year.  A great training programme, good support from County Officials, parents and club members and most of all great camaraderie amongst our talented young golfers.

Many thanks to our wonderful hostest Sandy from Temple GC and the Berkshire organiser Nicky Luff who looked after us all incredably well.  As you will see from the photos a great time was had by all.

ST ANDREWS JUNIOR LADIES OPEN  - 8 August 2010

Both the scratch and handicap match-play titles in the St Andrews Junior Ladies Open went over the Border.

In the morning semi-finals, Emma had beaten the No 1 qualifier, Rebecca Wilson (Grange) by 3 and 2 while Olivia beat Lauren Whyte (St Regulus) by 6 and 4.
The Girls’ Open Quaich handicap competition had an England v Scotland final in which Amy Staniford, the No 1 seed and 15-handicapper from the Datchet club, Berkshire, beat Heather Munro, who plays off eight at Monifieth, by 4 and 3 over the the Old Course.

ENGLISH GIRLS' CHAMPIONSHIPS - 29 JULY 2010

Well done to all the girls who took part; Charlotte West, Annabel Dimmock, Lydia Johnston, Charlotte Nutt, Emily Marler and Zoe Fitz-Costa and thank you to the parents for their support and time to allow this. The courses were very punishing at times especially the rain, wind and 59 bunkers at Seacroft!

Annabel Dimmock was the only Bucks girl to make the final day and finished a very creditable 16th in the U15s. Well done Annabel.

Unfortunately at U18s Zoe and Lydia just missed the cut by 1 shot!

Next year these championships are being held at Mentmore and Ellesborough, so plenty of opportunity for Bucks girls in 2011.

Full report and pictures will be available soon.

USKIDS EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS - 6 JUNE 2010

More than 400 players from 30 nations competed in Europe's premier junior tournament at Gullane, East Lothain in half-term.  Annabel Dimmock (13, Beaconsfield GC) and Megan Dennis (10, Woburn GC) played  3 days of strokeplay. Annabel won her age group and Megan came second in hers.  Both girls then qualified to represent the European team against the Internationals for the Van Horne Cup which is a Ryder Cup style match play event held on Gullane No 1 in beautiful sunshine overlooking Aberlady Bay and neighbouring Muirfield.  Annabel and Megan both won their matches to contribute to Europe's win over the Internationals.  Both have now qualified to compete in the World Championships at Pinehurst, North Carolina in August.

SCOTTISH GIRLS UNDER 16 CHAMPIONSHIPS  -  9 April 2010

Annabel Dimmock played in the Scottish Girls U16 Championships on 8th & 9th April where the best under 16 golfing talent from Great Britain and Ireland did not disappoint with some low scores at Strathmore Golf Centre. Annabel came 19th out of a field of 101 girls, with scores of 78 & 73 to finish +7 over the two rounds. Annabel was pleased with the overall result as she didn’t play her best golf.

The eventual winner was Emily Taylor from Lytham St Annes, who broke the ladies course record on the last day with a 66.

JUNIOR ABRAHAM TROPHY - 31 March 2010

News has just been received as to the Juniors who have qualified for the Abraham Trophy, which is held each year on the day immediately prior to the English Girls' Championships.

This year it will be played on 26th July at Market Rasen, Lincolnshire, which is the venue for the Under 15 and Under 13 Girls' Championships. It is an 18 hole strokeplay competition where girls qualify on how much they have dropped their handicap in one year.

Congratulations to Luan Skeates from The Buckinghamshire who won the area qualifier and now goes on to play at the Abraham Trophy Final - she will receive an area trophy after the final.

Lucy Matthews (Ellesborough) was 7th in our area and just missed out in qualifying for a place in the final. Abigail and Kirsty Kennedy (Mentmore), Alice Kolowski and Kim Squire (Ellesborough) and Chloe Li (Woburn) also entered but the standard was the best it has ever been and so they also do not progress to the final.

LADY VOLUNTEER REQUIRED - 9 January 2010

Help is required for the County Pre-handicap Girls' Events. The good news is that the Junior Pre-handicap section has grown but this means that with the increase in numbers attending, the Junior Committee are seeking a helping hand from lady members on an ad hoc basis, to assist with supervision on Par 3 Courses giving advise on rules and etiquette.

EWGA NEWSLETTER ITEMS - 7 December 2009

Below is an item of news extracted from the latest issue of EWGA's monthly electronic newsletter:-

JUNIOR NEWS

It's official! Girls' golf is getting better and that is reflected in the new handicap limits for the English U15 & U13 Championships. From next year the limit for entry to the U15's will be 18.4 (previously 20.4) while the limit for the U13's will be 20.4 (formerly 24.4). The Championships will be played at Market Rasen, Lincs., from 27th to 29th July.

There is a new look for the Englsh Girls' (Under 18) Campionships. The 2010 Championships will trial a new format when it changes to a 72-hole strokeplay competition. Traditionally it was played over 5 days and consisted of two rounds of strokeplay qualifying, followed by matchplay in two flights. Next year's Championships at Seacroft, Lincs, will be played over 3 days from 27th July. The entire field will play 18 holes on each of the first two days before a cut is made for the final day's 36 holes. The change reflects the growing interest in strokeplay among young players, many of whom are planning careers in professional golf. The U15 & U13 Championships have been strokeplay events for the last 4 years.

JUNIOR CAPTAINS FOR 2010 - 6 December 2009

At the Junior Autumn Meeting the County Captain, Sue Beresford, announced that there would be Joint Junior Captains for 2010. Zoe Fitz-Costa from Beaconsfield has been the Junior Captain throughout this year but as from 1st January the role will be shared by Zoe and Emily Marler from Hazlemere.

Congratulations to the girls on their appointment, and best of luck to them and the whole of the Junior Section for the forthcoming season.
