With an aggregate score of 155 Nicole finished in 5th. place, on countback from Harriet. Harriet's splendid rounds over recent weeks have seen her handicap come down from 9 to 5. Victoria Collis has worked extremely hard at her golf with the result of lowering her handicap from 15 at the start of the holidays to 5.9!
GIRLS' BRITISH OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Nicole Whitmore (Woburn) and Rachel Drummond (Beaconsfield) qualified to play in the Girls' British Open Championships, which were held at Portstewart Golf Club in Ireland on 16th. to 18th. August, a fixture which unbelievably clashed with Junior County Week. Nicole was one of only 7 English girls to qualify for the matchplay - 2 of ELGA's squad of 8 did not make it through to the knock-out stage.
Nicole sent the following report:-
" Rachel Drummond and I really enjoyed ourselves at the British Girls in Ireland. The Championships were played at Portstewart Golf Club. The first eight holes are the most difficult I have ever played. Scoring was almost impossible with the wind blowing like it did. 144 girls from all over the world competed, the Spanish girls being the main contenders. This was the first time Rachel played in this competition and she struggled with the pressures of the tournament, but gained great experience from it. The Par for the course was 73 but the CSS was 76 for both qualifying days. 64 girls qualified for the matchplay. I shot 81 and 77 to qualify in tied 48th place. I was so happy just to make the cut, purely because of the standard of the girls playing. Unfortunately I lost my match 3 and 2 to Sian James from England but it was a good match seeing as I was 5 down after 12 holes - Sian reached the quarter finals. "
ENGLISH GIRLS' CHAMPIONSHIPS
Congratulations to Harriet Beasley (Woburn) who played excellent golf at the English Girls' Championships in the two rounds of stroke play qualifying at Kings Norton Golf Club on the 1st. and 2nd. Harriet qualified for the Flight 1 matchplay and 5 Bucks. girls qualified for Flight 2. Stephanie Gough (Ellesborough) and Nicole Whitmore (Woburn) had to play each other in the semi-final - Steph won on the 20th. hole to reach the Flight 2 final, only losing on the 18th hole! Well done Steph!
The English Girls' Under 15 & 13 Championships took place at the same time at Kidderminster Golf Club. For a full Report on the English Under 18 & Under 15 Champs.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE LESS EXPERIENCED
- Recognising that it is difficult for many girls to enter enough qualifying competitions to gain experience and to have the opportunity to improve their handicap, the Junior Committee have organised extra competitions. They will be played on Sunday afternoons on the main course at Wycombe Heights Golf Club and are open to all girls with a handicap. The dates are:-
23rd. April; 28th. May; 25th. June
Tee times will be from 2.00pm. and play will be in 3's. There are no Entry Forms - just turn up (although Hilda Wright would like you to e-mail to say if you wish to play). The County will pay half the cost and so it will just be £6 for you to pay on the day. If these are successful they will continue throughout the year. There will be a parent in charge on the day and so offers of help from any parents who will be around would be appreciated.
- Dates for Pre-Handicap Meetings have now been arranged. New members are very welcome and so if anyone has any friends who would like to join in then please let a member of the Junior Committee know.
