NICOLE WHITMORE IN SUN CITY

Nicole Whitmore from Woburn finished top of the leaderboard in the Daily Telegraph qualifying series, after playing to 4 under at Cambridge Golf Club. Having played in last year's finals Nicole, still only 15, returned to Sun City for the 2004 Finals; twelve boys and nine girls take part in the event from 7th. to 13th. October. Nicole's main rival is Melissa Reid, the English Girls' Champion who plays off scratch, and who has been given a Sponsor's Invitation.

Nicole scored an 83 in the first round at the Gary Player Country Club, followed by a 79 at the Lost City Course (complete with its zebras, baboons and infamous crocodile pit) and then another 83 back at the Gary Player Club to finish in seventh position. The winner was Melissa Reid who shot 73, 75, 81 to finish one ahead of Glaswegian, Kylie Walker.

CLARA LEATHERS IN FALDO SERIES FINAL

Clara Leathers from Ellesborough headed the Order of Merit for South East England and hence qualified for the Faldo Series Finals which took place at Burhill Golf Club on Monday 11th. October. Clara suffered from a disappointing first round but, with a two over par second round, finished in seventh place. Kiran Matharu from Leeds who is only 15, won the Girls' event with a 68 and a 74; her -4 total of 142 was 11 shots clear of her nearest rival. Clara enjoyed the experience, being in the company of "the man himself". In the Sponsors' Day that followed on Tuesday Clara's team finished in second place.

BUCKS. JUNIOR GIRLS IN THE SOUTH EAST AREA FINAL

Essex beat the Bucks. Junior Girls, 5 - 2, in the South East Area Final which was played at North Hants. Golf Club on Sunday, 12th. September. Well done to all the girls on reaching the Final - the girls coped well with the difficult, blustery conditions and did not seem to be phased by the sea of red supporters. Essex were last year's losing finalists and, with the experience gained this year, it should not be too long before the Bucks. girls take the title.

GIRLS' BRITISH OPEN AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS

This event took place at Lanark Golf Club in Scotland from 4th. to 8th. August. Clara Leathers and Nicole Whitmore qualified to play in this prestigious Championship. The playing conditions were tough with the Course set up with difficult pin positions. The scores were high considering the elite field. Clara and Nicole struggled with their scores but gained valuable experience from playing amongst the best girls in Europe. DAILY TELEGRAPH QUALIFIER AT AYLESBURY PARK G.C.

The qualifying event run by the B.C.L.G.A. was held at Aylesbury Park G.C. on Sunday 11th. July. Clara Leathers from Ellesborough G.C., won the event by playing to level par. She now has to wait to see if she will be one of the eight girls to qualify for the Finals at Sun City in October, following in the footsteps of Nicole Whitmore from last year. BRITISH HEART FOUNDATION TEAM EVENT

Natalie Robinson from Ellesborough G.C. was one of the three pupils who represented the Grange School, Aylesbury in the qualifying competition for the British Heart Foundation. Natalie scored an amazing 53 points and the team now go forward to the final which is being played at The Belfry in September.

ENGLISH SCHOOLS' NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The S.E. Schools qualifying competition was held on Sunday 2nd. May. Three Bucks. girls took part - Nicole Whitmore, Natasha and Stephanie Gough. The scores were all very high but Nicole qualified in third place to go through to the National Championships which were held on Monday 28th. June at Thetford Golf Club. With a par of 74 the winning score for the 36 holes was 8 over par. Nicole had played in the 36 hole competition for the Pleasington Putter the day before, and with all the travelling involved, did not play her best golf finishing some 11 shots behind the leader.

DAILY TELEGRAPH QUALIFIER AT CAMBRIDGE G.C.

Nicole Whitmore shot level par 73 in the "Daily Telegraph" qualifying competition held at Cambridge G.C. on Saturday, 12th. June. This puts Nicole at the top of the leaderboard - the top eight girls and eleven boys qualify for the Finals in Sun City later in the year (Nicole qualified for the Finals last year).
N.B. It now appears that, due to a problem with the boys' results, Nicole's score is also not being accepted. BCLGA wish Nicole well in trying to secure qualification through another event.

MEGHAN McLAREN COMES SECOND IN REGIONAL FINALS

Megan Maclaren from Windmill Hill Golf Club won the "Wee Wonders" qualifying competition at Greetham, run by the EGU. She went through to the Regional Finals at the Alison Nicholas Academy on Sunday 20th. June where she hit the ball really well and came second. She finished on the 10th. Green with the winner finishing on the 11th. Fairway.

GILL BATCHELOR TROPHY

NICOLE WHITMORE - BUTCH HARMON COACHING COURSE

Nicole Whitmore has been selected, along with 14 other U.K. girls, to attend the "Red Bull Masterclass" on 3rd. and 4th. June at The Belfry, where she will be coached by Butch Harmon and his three brothers. Coaching will take place on the first day and the morning of the second day, finishing with the final nine holes being played of the Brabazon Course. From all the information they will have gathered over the two days the coaches will select 2 girls and 2 boys to go on a trip to the Dick Harmon School of Golf in Houston, Texas, for a week's tuition in October.
P. S. Nicole had a wonderful experience with Butch Harmon and his brothers. She gained a lot from the experience but was disappointed not to have been selected to go for the week's tuition in Houston.

THE NICK FALDO SERIES COMPETITION

Clara Leathers won the First Round of the South East area qualifying competition that took place at Walton Heath Golf Club on Wednesday 7th. April. In third place was Nicole Whitmore, fourth Natasha Gough and sixth Steph Gough.
In the Second Round of the South East area qualifying competition, which took place on Wednesday 28th. April at Royal St. George's, both Clara and Nicole shot a level par 76; Nicole won on countback from Clara. The next best score was 84.
After two rounds Clara leads the order of merit with 28.5points and Nicole is second with 23.5points. Natasha and Stephanie Gough are lying in 5th. an 6th. place respectively with 17.5 and 10.5 points.
The third and final round in the South East region takes place on Monday 23rd. August at Burhill Golf Club, which is also the venue for the Faldo Series Final in October.

THE GIRLS' COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS

NICOLE WHITMORE - JOINT EIGHTH AT St. ANDREWS

Nicole Whitmore from Woburn Golf Club was selected by E.L.G.A. to be a member of the English team which took part in the S.L.G.A. St. Leonards School Under 16 Open Stroke Play Championship held at Strathtyrum Golf Club, St. Andrews on Thursday 8th. and Friday 9th. April.
Nicole had a two-over-par score of 70 in the first round which put her in joint second place with Carly Booth from Auchterarder (an 11 year-old playing off a handicap of 4). Heading the field was Krystle Caithness, a 15 year-old native of St. Andrews playing off a handicap
of 4, with a score of 69. Defending champion Roseanne Niven from Crieff lay in eighth position, 3 shots off the pace. A score of 67 in the second round secured victory for Krystle and second place for Carly. Nicole had a 73 which put her in a creditable joint eighth position. Third place went to Nicole's English team-mate Henrietta Brockway from Yeovil.

TWO JUNIORS RECORD WINS IN FIRST TEAM MATCH

Clara Leathers and Natasha Gough played for the First Team in their encounter against Middlesex on Saturday 20th. March at Burnham Beeches and both recorded victories. The Friendly warm-up match was halved 4 - 4. For full results see the "Match Results" Section.

FIRST RESULTS FOR 2004

The first results are now available for 2004. During the week of half-term the County girls played their first Competition of the year (the B.B. & O.
