Our match against Oxfordshire was the first of 5 Midland South 2nd team League matches. Oxfordshire won the 2009 League so we knew we were in for a very hard fought match and that turned out to be the case. They whitewashed our team 3 – 0 in the morning foursomes but the Bucks team played with determination in the afternoon, running out winners in the singles 3½- 2½ but sadly it wasn’t quite enough to make up for the morning deficit. The final score: Oxfordshire 5½- Buckinghamshire 3½.
Thanks to Oxfordshire for a very enjoyable match played in a good spirit and to Studley Wood for their kind hospitality.
Well done to all the team and thank you to Margaret Maisey, Sue McKeon, Sue Lee and Anna Pitfield for their support and for caddying in appalling weather conditions.

TEAM:- Jackie Boon (Abbey Hill), Holly Small and Jess Burrows (Ellesborough), Kerry Sumner (Buckingham), Julia Gallagher (Woburn), Anna Pitfield (Harleyford)

The Second Team with County President at Silverstone, Northants
Our second Midlands South League match was against Northamptonshire at Silverstone. The course was in good condition and both teams found the very fast greens a challenge, but everyone enjoyed some very close matches, a number of which went to the 18th.
The morning foursomes saw Bucks down 2-1 but after a determined effort in the afternoon singles, in which Bucks won 4½ points out of a possible 6, the team finished triumphant at 5½ - 3½.
Thanks goes to Ros Cuthbert, the Northamptonshire Second Team Captain for organizing the match and to Silverstone for their hospitality.
Once again our President, Margaret Maisey, was present to offer support and encouragement to the team and it was much appreciated.

Bucks. v Worcs/Heref. at Flackwell Heath G.C. - Sunday 11th July
TEAM: Kerry Sumner (Buckingham), Holly Small (Ellesborough), Evie Ing (Ellesborough), Emily Marler (Ellesborough), Catherine Smith (Stoke Park), Susan Kettler (Mentmore), Cathy Armstrong (Ellesborough)
The Worcester and Hereford team travelled a long way for our match at Flackwell Heath but everyone enjoyed a brilliant day. Everything during the day ran very smoothly thanks to Flackwell Heath who made us feel so welcome.
All the foursomes matches were closely contended, with all three of them finishing on the 17th or 18th. The new pairing of Kerry Sumner and Catherine Smith played well together and were our only winners.
In the afternoon singles Holly halved with her opponent and Kerry, Catherine and Emily had good wins - Emily won by an amazing 8/6!!
The match drew together a wonderful mix of youngsters and more ‘mature’ players on both sides, with everyone enjoying lovely weather and good company. Our thanks go to Flackwell Heath for hosting this match and for their help before and throughout the day. Particular thanks go to Ladies’ Captain, Lorraine Scevity and Sue Lawton plus a number of ball spotters for making it such a memorable day.
Morning Foursomes: Bucks lost 2-1
Afternoon Singles: Bucks won 3½ - 2½
Result: HALVED 4½ - 4½

Bucks. v Warwicks. at Ellesborough G.C. - Saturday 17th July
TEAM: Holly Small (Ellesborough), Evie Ing (Ellesborough), Chelsea Kemp (Windmill Hill), Chloe Li (Woburn), Annabel Dimmock (Beaconsfield), Alice Richards (Beaconsfield)
The team got off to a very good start winning the morning Foursomes 2-1. Holly and Chelsea had a magnificent 6/5 win whilst Alice and Annabel also had a convincing 4/3 win. Evie and Chloe had a close match, losing 2/1.
The team was full of hope in the afternoon but couldn’t quite match up to expectations. Evie and Chelsea were our only winners 5/4 and 2/1 respectively. However, with such a young team, five being juniors, I was really pleased with how they played. It was all good experience and I am sure they will enjoy many successes in the very near future.
Thanks go to Ellesborough for hosting the match and to Gill Read the Ladies’ Captain who was there to see the teams off in the morning. Our grateful thanks also go to the ladies from Ellesborough who did some very helpful ball-spotting and to our County Captain, Sue for coming along to offer support.
Result: LOST 4 - 5

Bucks. v Berks. at Newbury & Crookham G.C. - Monday 23rd August at 9.30am
TEAM: Anne Bridges (Mentmore); Annabel Dimmock (Beaconsfield); Emily Marler (Ellesborough); Lydia Johnston (Harleyford); Charlotte Nutt (Beaconsfield); Emma Hargreaves (Beaconsfield)
This good win proved to be a great way for Bucks to finish their Midland South League matches. Despite the changeable weather the girls played well all day. Everything was thrown at them, sun, torrential rain and high winds!
Anne and Annabel had an amazing turn around in their foursomes match. They were 5 down and bravely clawed it back with a one under par last 9 to win with a birdie putt on the 18th. Lydia and Emily also had a brilliant birdie putt to win on the 18th. Emma and Charlotte had a narrow defeat, losing on the 17th.
Bucks ran away with the singles in the afternoon, winning 4½ out of 6. Three of these were with very convincing wins, 6/5 by Emily, 5/4 by Annabel and 4/2 by Emma.
The girls were a great joy to watch and to be with. They played with skill, and they quite obviously enjoyed each other’s company and that of their opponents. Thanks go to Karen Thorne, the Berks 2nd team captain for organizing the match and to Newbury and Crookham Golf Club for hosting it.
The 2nd team have finished their matches this season with a creditable 2 wins, 1 half and 2 losses.
