Bucks Shield Finals Day

Magnolia Park Golf Club

Friday 22nd August 2008

             Magnolia Park
Magnolia Park, host for the Bucks Shield Finals' Day

The Bucks Shield Finals' Day was held at Magnolia Park on Friday 22nd. August. The course was in excellent condition and Magnolia Park were superb hosts. After rain first thing in the morning the weather was good throughout the day. The wind picked up in the afternoon, which made for difficult conditions on an already challenging course.

The line-up for the morning semi-finals was:-

Harleyford v Buckingham   &   Richings Park v Harewood Downs

Buckingham sporting their new strip of red sweaters and stone trousers, despite giving shots to all seven opponents, were too strong for Harleyford. They won the first four matches to secure their place in the final.

Richings Park, playing in their first Bucks Shield Finals' Day, won two of the first three matches against Harewood Downs. After some close matches Harewood managed their fourth win with the conclusion of the sixth match, to go through to the final. Well done to Richings Park for their valiant effort in this year's campaign - thier total ladies membership is a mere 35!

Buckingham made one change to their team from the morning and Harewood played two new players in the final. All the Buckingham team were giving shots to their opponents - with the exception of one player four or more shots. The Buckingham team played extemely well and although the match that secured the win for Buckingham was extremely close, going to the 18th, the first four matches were won by Buckingham.
