FLACKWELL HEATH - RULES CHAMPIONS

Flackwell Heath are the new champions of the R&A Great Britain and Ireland Rules of Golf Quiz. Their team of four gentlemen beat Crosland Heath from West Yorkshire in a tight final, which was staged in the Royal & Ancient Golf Clubhouse at St. Andrews on 27th. November.


ELLESBOROUGH WIN "MAIL ON SUNDAY" FINAL

The Ellesborough Ladies won their semi-final of "The Mail on Sunday" against Bromsgove 5-1, and then went on to beat Stirling 3½-2½ in the final, which was played at El Rompido Golf and Beach Resort, Costa de la Luz in Spain, on 22nd. and 23rd. November. Well done to all the team and their supporters.


B.C.L.G.A. ANNUAL MEETING, 26th. OCTOBER

The Annual Meeting was held at Harleyford Golf Club on Wednesday 26th. October. Following the presentation of the prizes the B.C.L.G.A. Officers presented their reports to the Meeting. Thanks were given to the retiring members of the Executive Committee:- Carol Postlethwaite (President), Christine Watson (County Training Officer) and Sue Walton (Treasurer). As for
previous Past Presidents, Carol was awarded Honorary Membership of the County. Christine was also awarded Honorary Membership for all her commitment to the County over a period of nineteen years. Having been County Champion on 12 occasions since 1987 Christine now wishes to retire from County golf and to concentrate on her Seniors' golf at national level.

The following new members were elected to the Executive:- Connie Frazer, President (Harewood Downs); Carolyn Howell, Vice Captain (Woburn); Carole Weir, County Training Officer (Beaconsfield); Georgie Cairns, Treasurer (Gerrards Cross).

HOLE-IN-ONE FOR CLAIRE TOFIELD

Claire Tofield from Buckingham scored a hole-in-one during a Winter League match at Ellesborough. Her ace came at the 8th. hole - well done!!


JUNIOR CHARITY DAY
(Magnolia Park G.C., Monday 24th. October)

Twelve teams entered the Junior Charity Day which was held in very wet and windy conditions at Magnolia Park. Each team of four consisted of one junior; two out of the four scores counted per hole except for the par threes where three scores counted. Despite the conditions there were some very good scores, the winning team being Nicole Whitmore with parents, Howard and Rita, and Jane Twigden (all from Woburn) with 86 points. The event was very successful raising £1650 for the Pre-Handicap juniors.


NEWS OF SCRATCH LEAGUES

- Beaconsfield have successfully retained the Scratch League title that they won last year. With a 6 - 0 win in their last match of the season they finished with a total of 22 points, two ahead of Woburn. Winners of the other Divisions in the Scratch League are:- Chiltern Forest (Division 2); Gerrards Cross (Division 3); Denham (Division 4).
- In their last match of the season last year's runners-up, Richings Park, secured the one point that they needed to win the Bronze League. They finished with 25 points, closely followed by Woburn with 24 points. Winners of the other Divisions in the Bronze League are:- Harewood Downs (Division 2); Buckingham (Division 3); Gerrards Cross (Division 4).


ELLESBOROUGH IN "MAIL ON SUNDAY" FINALS

Ellesborough won their quarter final of the Mail on Sunday competition, which was held in dismal conditions on Saturday 1st. October at the Worsley Golf and Country Club, Manchester. They were drawn against Belvoir Park, a strong team from Northen Ireland. The team was:- Fiona Thompson, Clara Leathers, Tasha Gough, Steph Gough, Cathy Armstrong and Holly
Small with reserves Margaret Maisey and Wendy Smith. They now go to El Rompido Golf and Beach Resort, Costa de la Luz, Huelva, Andalucia for the semi-finals and finals on 22nd. / 23rd. November.


NATIONAL SUCCESS FOR BUCKS. LADIES

- Margaret Maisey and Holly Small (Ellesborough) won a regional final of the NSPCC Fourball Better Ball competition and
played in the Final at the Forest of Arden on Friday 30th. September.
- Lorraine Matthews and Claire Geneen (Lambourne) played their way through to the finals of the Daily Mail Foursomes, which were held at the Marriott St. Pierre Golf and Country Club on the weekend of 17th./18th. October. They lost to the eventual runners-up, Northants. County; the overall winners were Cowdray Park.

The B.C.L.G.A. congratulates the above ladies on their success.


INTERCLUB FOURSOMES CUP

The Interclub Foursomes Cup was held in wet and windy conditions at The Lambourne Club on Thursday, 13th. October. Lambourne were the winners with an aggregate nett score of 155, followed by Weston Turville on 159. Carole Weir and Christine Wsatson (Beaconsfield) were the Best Pair with a nett 74. AUTUMN MEETING NEWS

- The Autumn Meeting held at Magnolia Park G.C. on 26th. September took the form of a 3-Ball Team Alliance with the best two out of three scores to count. 21 teams competed on a dry but blustery day. The winners with 86 points were:- Pamela Howfield & Sue Jackson (Flackwell Heath) with Sally Gomm (Chiltern Forest).
- The Seniors' Autumn Meeting was held at Harleyford G.C. on Wednesday 19th. October. The course was closed due to thunder and lightning and the competition was reduced to 9 holes. Margaret Beal (Hazlemere) had the best individual score with 20 points. The best Three Ball Alliance Team with 37 points were also from Hazlemere:- Margaret Mountford, Mary Jefferies and Margaret Beal.


NICOLE & CLARA WIN S.E. LADIES' FOURSOMES

The E.L.G.A. S.E. Ladies' Foursomes were held at Orsett Golf Club on 26th. September. After 18 holes Nicole Whitmore (Woburn) and Clara Leathers (Ellesborough) were leading by one shot with a 3 over par round of 76. (At the same stage last year they were leading the field and went on to finish in third place). The wind increased in the afternoon but the girls shot
another 76 to win by three shots, a marvellous achievement considering they had not seen the course before and the field included several England Elite squad members.


CAROLYN HOWELL WINS CHALLENGE CUP FINAL

The Challenge Cup Final between Vice Captain Elect, Carolyn Howell (Woburn), and Second Team Captain, Diane Wilson (Denham) was held at Gerrards Cross on Sunday 2nd. October. CHRISTINE WATSON WINS CHAMP. OF CHAMPS.

The Champion of Champions' Final took place on Saturday 24th. September, at Ellesborough Golf Club. Christine Watson (Beaconsfield) retained the trophy with a victory over Kathy Horabin (Weston Turville). For exact result of match and photos. go to the "Competitions" Page.


CHRISTINE WATSON - 4th. IN BRITISH SENIORS OPEN

The British Senior Ladies Open was held at Newport from 20th. to 22nd. September. Christine Watson (Beaconsfield) finished in 4th. place on 11 over par for the three rounds. 90 competitors from 12 countries took part. Eva Ansgarius with a score of +7 successfully defended her title, with a fellow Swede in second place and Mary McKenna of Ireland in 3rd. place on +10. Christine now heads off at the weekend to the Home Internationals.


SENIOR LADIES' ENGLISH CLOSE AMATEUR CHAMPS.

Five Bucks. ladies competed in the above event which was held at Handsworth Golf Club, Birmingham, from 29th. August to 3rd. September. Two qualifying strokeplay rounds were played on the Monday and Tuesday. Christine Watson (Beaconsfield) with a Gross 79 and 83 qualified in 7th. position for the matchplay. In the quarter-finals she was beaten 3 & 2 by the defending champion Chris Quinn from South Winchester who went on to retain the title. For full results click below:- www.englishladiesgolf.org


WOBURN - WINNERS OF BUCKS. SHIELD

The Finals' Day took place on Thursday, 11th. August at Flackwell Heath Golf Club. In the semi-finals: Lambourne beat Gerrards Cross and Woburn beat Stowe. In the afternoon final Woburn beat Lambourne to take the title (the last time they had won the trophy was in 1995).

MARISA SGARAVATTI TROPHY

England retained the trophy for the European Senior Ladies Team Championships (for Handicaps 7+), which they had won in both 2003 and 2004. Cathy Armstrong (Ellesborough) was in last year's team of six in Iceland and again this year at Costa Ballena, near Cadiz, Spain. After two rounds of Stroke Play England qualified in second place behind Italy. In the Match Play, Cathy halved her match in the semi-final against France and then won her match 4 & 3 in the final against Italy, England winning by 3 matches to 2.


COUNTY WEEK 2005
(Monday 13th. to Friday 17th. June)

The B.C.L.G.A. Executive were pleased to host this year's County Week at Beaconsfield. Hampshire were the winners; full results can be found in the "County Week" section which also includes a Report from the County Captain and a Picture Gallery with over 30 photographs.


EUROPEAN SENIOR LADIES TEAM SELECTION

Two from Bucks. have been selected to play for the England Senior Ladies:
- Christine Watson (Beaconsfield) is in the team to play in the 25th. European Senior Ladies Team Championships which are being held at Pleasington G.C., Blackburn, from 5th. to 9th. September. Twelve teams compete in the Stroke Play qualifying
on the Tuesday and Wednesday with the Match Play taking place on the Thursday and Friday.
- Cathy Armstrong (Ellesborough) is included in the team for the Marisa Sgaravatti Trophy (the European Senior Ladies Team Champs. for Handicaps 7+) being held at Costa Ballena, near Cadiz, Spain, between 21st. and 24th. June.


THE COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS
(Burnham Beeches, 6th - 8th. May)
Congratulations to:- Lynda King, County Champion 2005 & Nicole Whitmore on reaching the Final. The semi-finals of the Championships held at Burnham Beeches were Nicola Marshall (Denham) v Nicole Whitmore (Woburn), and Lynda King (Rye Hill) v Vicki Harris (Beaconsfield). It was therefore certain that there was to be a first-time Champion by Sunday evening. The Final was aclose fought affair, Lynda winning on the 18th.
The Spring Meeting and Qualifying Round was held over 36 holes on Friday. A total of 58 ladies competed for the 16 qualifying places - Christine Watson shot a 75 and 76 to lead the field.

THE SPRING MEETING AT CHILTERN FOREST

The Spring meeting for Handicaps 15 and above was held on Wednesday 27th. April. There were 37 entrants from 11 Clubs. Despite a very poor weather forecast the day stayed mainly dry with just a short outbreak of rain. Congratulations to:
Winner: Angelika Baumstark (Windmill Hill) 33 points
2nd.: Linda Pringle (Huntswood) 32 points on count back
3rd.: Scilla Boyes (Woburn) 32 points.
The competition was a Qualifying Stableford but since the Competition Standard Scratch moved from 71 to 74, it was classed as "Reduction Only". An excellent buffet lunch was laid on by Chiltern Forest and £60 was raised from the Ball Sweep for the Captain's Charity, PACE.


THE BEACONSFIELD SALVERS

"The Beaconsfield Salvers" takes place this year on Thursday 7th. July. Entry Forms for this prestigious 36 Hole Medal Foursomes competition are available from Wendy Gardiner (Tel: 01494, 672406). There are Scratch and Handicap prizes - please note that there is a combined Handicap limit of 34.


THE WINTER FOURSOMES FINAL

The Final of the Winter Foursomes Knockout between Olive Marchant & Yvonne Goodson (Woburn) and Diane Wilson & Kathryn Connolly (Denham) took place on Monday 21st. March at Ellesborough, resulting in a 4 & 2 win for the Denham pair - well done! Thanks to the supporters who turned out in the cold to make an occasion of it and to both pairs for an

SPRING LIKE EFFECT DRIVERS

The English Ladies' Golf Association has introduced a clause limiting the use of "spring like" effect drivers to its Condition of Competition for all their Championships with effect from 1st. January 2005. This follows similar action by the R&A and LGU. However the ELGA Rules & Regulations Committee recommend that Divisions and Counties do not introduce this condition for their competitions, including club/county and county matches until the new Rule of Golf is introduced on 1st. January 2008.


MEMBERS' YEAR BOOKS

The Members' Year Books (blue this year) are distributed to members via the Clubs. The books contain all the relevant information and Entry Forms for the various County Meetings and Knock-Out Competitions.


FIRST TEAM COACHING / PRACTICE SESSIONS

Coaching / practice sessions have been arranged prior to the start of the season for members of the First Team squad. Friendly matches have also been organised for the First Team in preparation for County Week in June.

INTERMEDIATES

Diane Wilson, the Second Team Captain is the main contact for those in the Intermediate age group. Coaching opportunities may be available to those aged between 18 and 21. There are two County competitions for those aged 18 to 25 and there are also ELGA run competitions for those aged up to 30. If you qualify for this age group please liaise with:

SENIORS

Details of all the Seniors' Matches can be found in the Members' Year Books, together with a Form to be completed by anyone interested in playing in any of the matches. To qualify players need to have a handicap of under 14 and be 50 years or over on 1st. January. The Form should be returned to Liz Weaver, the Seniors' Captain, as soon as possible.

ANNE STYLES - SECOND AT VILLAMOURA

At the Portuguese Seniors' Open held in January Anne Styles was 2nd. Gross / 3rd. Nett (Category 3) in the 36 hole Medal competition. With Jeanette Richardson as her partner Anne also finished 3rd. in the four ball better ball competition.

 

THE COUNTY LUNCHEON

Due to refurbishment work at Woburn Golf Club, the County Lunch was this year held at The Sculpture Gallery at Woburn Abbey, on Wednesday 19th. January. It was a great occasion attended by 229 ladies, with excellent food and service. The speaker was Tara Conlan, the T.V. Editor of The Daily Mail.


ABBEY HILL G. C. WIN HAWTREE TROPHY

Abbey Hill Golf Club in Milton Keynes are the winners of the NAPGC (National Association of Public Golf Courses) "Hawtree Trophy".


WINTER FOURSOMES HOLE-IN-ONE

Congratulations to Mila Spray of Lambourne who had a hole-in-one in her first round match in the Winter Foursomes with Stella Haigh, against Diane Wilson and Kathyrn Connolly. To find out the outcome of the match and to see the results in the Winter League go to the "Competitions" Page.


THREE BUCKS. LADIES IN ICELAND

Three ladies from Bucks were selected to represent the English Senior Ladies team in the Marissa Scaravatti tournament in Iceland in the summer, Margaret Maisey and Cathy Armstrong from Ellesborough and Carolyn Howell from Woburn.Ten nations took part, playing on a spectacular course overlooking the sea at Reykjavik. 9 holes consisted of fairways amongst the lava rocks, which tested accuracy and nerves! The back 9 were links holes where battling with the elements played a big part.
England came out top in the strokeplay stage making them number 1 seeds for the matchplay stage. In the semi final England narrowly beat Germany 3 - 2 but in the final England had a runaway victory over Spain 4½ - ½.
