GREAT PERFORMANCE BY RACHEL - 18 December 2009
Ladies European Tour Final Stage Qualifying School
La Manga, Murcia, Spain - December 2009
Congratulations to Rachel Drumond (Beaconsfield) who qualified for the Final Stage of the Ladies European Tour’s Qualifying School, which was held at La Manga in Spain. The Pre-Qualifying took place from Tuesday to Thursday 15th to 17th December and was immediately followed by the Final Stage, which was played over four rounds.
There were 166 players at this year’s Qualifying School targeting a place on the 2010 Ladies European Tour. Only 30 full cards were available at the end of the seven rounds (those players finishing in positions 31-50 can take a lower category of membership). Consistent with the LET’s international nature, the field contained players from 36 different countries. England led the way with 28 players, followed by Sweden with 19 representatives, France with 17 and 11 players from the USA.
At the Pre-Qualifying after 36 holes a cut was made with the leading 70 players and ties progressing to the final round of the Stage I Qualifying. The leading 46 players then qualified for Stage II Final Qualifying. Rachel had scores of 77, 76 & 73 to qualify in 40th= position.
The 40 qualifiers were joined by those who are exempt from Pre-Qualifying - there was a field of 84 competitors contesting the Final Qualifying stage over four rounds from Friday to Monday, 18th to 21st December. After three rounds a cut was made to the leading 50 players and ties, following which the order of exemption for the top 30 players was finalised on the last day.
Unfortunately Rachel missed the cut for the final day - with scores of 76, 76 & 78 she finished in 62nd position on +11. Well done however for this great performance by Rachel at her first attempt to qualify for the Ladies European Tour.

This session finished with a cool down and each girl received an exercise programme which is a six week plan to work on at home.
The day ended with a nutrition talk, a demonstration and tasting session including ideas for snacks to carry while playing.

USE OF DMD's IN EWGA MEDALS - 12 December 2009
EWGA have relaxed their ruling with regard to the use of Distance Measuring Devices. Below is the text of the statement that was issued by EWGA and appears on their website:-
Distance Measuring Devices in EWGA Events
At a recent meeting of the Golf Forum, the R&A and home unions (apart from the EGU) continued to oppose the use of distance measuring devices (DMDs) in their competitions.
At EWGA we are aware that the decision not to allow DMDs in all EWGA competitions has caused a number of problems, especially at club level.
We know that many clubs have already adopted a local rule to allow the use of DMDs in club competitions but their women have not been allowed to use the devices in EWGA medals.
EWGA has decided to allow the use of distance measuring devices in EWGA medals, Australian Spoons and the PING four ball better ball tournament at club level and where there is a local rule in place allowing the use of DMDs.
However, EWGA will continue not to allow DMDs for all regional* and national competitions and we continue to advise counties strongly not to allow the use of DMDs in their competitions.
The change will take effect from 1 January 2010.
Emma Lowe
Championship Manager
* This will include Medal Finals, regional and national finals of the Australian Spoons and the PING Plate and Grand finals
The BCLGA will continue to allow the use of DMDs in the county knockout competitions and Leagues. They will not be allowed in the County Championships or in County week.

JUNIOR NEWS
It's official! Girls' golf is getting better and that is reflected in the new handicap limits for the English U15 & U13 Championships. From next year the limit for entry to the U15's will be 18.4 (previously 20.4) while the limit for the U13's will be 20.4 (formerly 24.4). The Championships will be played at Market Rasen, Lincs., from 27th to 29th July.
There is a new look for the Englsh Girls' (Under 18) Campionships. The 2010 Championships will trial a new format when it changes to a 72-hole strokeplay competition. Traditionally it was played over 5 days and consisted of two rounds of strokeplay qualifying, followed by matchplay in two flights. Next year's Championships at Seacroft, Lincs, will be played over 3 days from 27th July. The entire field will play 18 holes on each of the first two days before a cut is made for the final day's 36 holes. The change reflects the growing interest in strokeplay among young players, many of whom are planning careers in professional golf. The U15 & U13 Championships have been strokeplay events for the last 4 years.

On countback, using the score from the fourth match, Bucks came out on top to take the trophy - a good consolation prize for just missing out on winning the overall week and the BB&O triangular match.

ASHLEY CRAMOND REGIONAL CHAMP - 9 July 2009
Congratulations to Ashley Cramond from The Warwickshire Golf Club who beat Katherine O'Connor from Tadmarton Heath Golf Club in today's final at Buckingham Golf Club, to become the first ever Midlands South Regional Champion.
The morning semi-finals saw Bucks Junior Gemma Dryburgh (Beaconsfield) put up a good defence against the top qualifier Ashley who came through to win the match by 3 & 2. The second semi-final was an all Oxfordshire affair with Katherine beating the Oxfordshire County Champion, Jane Binning (Frilford Heath) by 2 &1.
The final was a closely fought contest, going all the way to the 18th - only the second match to go the distance. On the 18th tee, 15 year old Ashley was one up - both girls had great drives and the approach shots left Katherine with a slighly longer, but uphill, putt. Having secured her par Ashley was then left with a tricky length putt to halve the hole and win the match.

FINAL DAY AT COUNTY WEEK - 26 June 2009
Warwicks started the final day of County Week in pole position. Having won each of their four matches this week, they need only to halve their match today against Worcs/Heref to retain the title. They beat Worcs/Heref to make a clean sweep and win by a convincing margin.
